List of things to do when Tonya comes to town. 2011

Yes I know, this is not necessarily "a blog" but.... it is a list of things that we plan to do when Mabel visits Nashville. With our memory, we need all the help we can get.

1. Take a spotter class

So Mabel can become a trained spotter and I can get a nifty certificate.

A new year.

Everyone always hopes that the new year will be better than the last. I hope that rings true for everyone this year. We had a quite the financial rough patch last year but were luckier than most. There were so many people that lost everything. Their jobs, their homes, their families even their lives. It is a sad but unfortunate fact that there have been parents that have felt like they had no other way out than to kill themselves. Rather than leave their children orphaned and alone with nothing they have often taken their child's life too. Sad, but I think that they must feel like there is no other way out.

Our society is so blinded by fancy clothes, fancy cars, nice jewelry, tanning beds and Jersey Shore. I am always trying to understand why people constantly are on a mission to impress everyone else. If the recession hasn't been a wake up call for people, I don't know what will. Don't get me wrong, I love my computer and my cable but at the end of the day I know these things are not necessities.

With that being said. My hopes for the new year are:

* That my family and friends stay healthy
* That everyone has what the need to survive
* That everyone can find happiness
* That I can get some home improvement done on the house
(I do it myself so it is a slooooooooooow process)
* Oh and I would like to read Decision Points by George W. Bush

Progress

Last night I was going to watch The People's Choice Awards but I there were other shows I wanted to watch so...... I didn't. I did, however, catch Neil Patrick Harris win an award for best comedic actor in a sitcom. I usually don't get "emotional" for lack of better words when celebrities make acceptance speeches but last night I was able to sit next to my daughter and explain why what he said in his speech was monumental. No it didn't appear as if he had prepared something to say but the fact they we, society, have finally progressed to the point that he can openly thank his partner and acknowledge their children is a beautiful thing. It is sad to think that it has taken so long. Ironically the people that have such a problem with same sex marriage and same sex relationships are not affected by it. I will never understand where people feel that they have the right to tell people who to love. After he accepted his award, I changed the channel. I decided to let it end on a good note. I didn't want it to turn all "Brett Farve."

The sky is a falling.

The sky is officially falling. Well, the birds are. Ironically, people seem not to care. If they were the ones that were dying in herds (or flocks) I think that their outlook would be different. Who knows what is causing it but it looks as if the number of locations are growing. Maybe we are all just characters in an Hitchcock film.
